about us

The Strand was established as a holiday and fishing resort in 1714, and the original Strand Pavilion was established as the landmark building in 1925. De Boerderij was designed by the same architect who redesigned the Pavilion in 1990 as a residence for his own family.

The current owners, Louis & Elizma Venter, altered the house to create an open plan entertainment area including the iconic braai room with a massive hearth reminiscent of their farming roots. De Boerderij is Dutch for “The Farm”, as the origins of farming in the Western Cape stem from Dutch settlers since 1652.

Elizma is a WSET wine educator and Louis is a helicopter pilot. They currently live in Abu Dhabi.
